Mutual
by Mailantia Dance Company (Taiwan)

In many Eastern cultures, hair carries profound symbolic meanings – representing vitality, dignity, identity, and spiritual continuity. It extends beyond aesthetics and functions as a bridge between the individual, family, and society.

Mutual draws from this cultural significance by physically connecting the dancers through their hair, creating a tangible limitation that echoes the constraints people encounter within themselves, with others, and within the structures of daily life. Within these bonds, the dancers constantly negotiate, adjust, and recalibrate their movements, seeking balance between individuality and collectivity. When direction falters, tension arises; when actions fall out of sync, relationships become entangled.

The work reveals how humans struggle within the confines of circumstance—pulling, resisting, supporting, and ultimately striving for care, cooperation, and coexistence. Through these physical metaphors, choreographer Yun-Chi Lai (Mai) illuminates the delicate dynamics of connection, portraying how fragility and interdependence shape our shared existence.

Who will love this show?
The work is created for dance lovers, contemporary dance enthusiasts, those who appreciate diverse cultures, and anyone excited by art that sparks meaningful conversation.

AEMIA – Somnia
by AEMIA/Emiliano Sacripanti (Argentina/Sweden)

Somnia is a sound space dedicated to rest and suspension. Inspired by the state between wakefulness and sleep, it creates an immersive atmosphere where listening becomes a refuge.

Rooted in ambient, neoclassical, and instrumental music, the sound unfolds in soft, layered textures that guide the listener toward calm. In this 45-minute performance, delicate curves, moments of rest, and natural transitions reflect a miniature sleep cycle. The experience invites the audience to inhabit a sustained climate of serenity, sharing a moment of stillness. Somnia is a fragment of a waking dream: a breath, a shared space to let oneself drift away.

Who will love this show?
Somnia is created for a broad and diverse audience, with no age limit, especially for listeners open to attentive listening and immersive sound experiences centered on calm and contemplation.

Pure Viking Blood
by Ulug Bek (Uzbekistan/Denmark)

He got the job. He got the passport. He still needs the DNA.

PURE VIKING BLOOD is Ulug Bek’s stand-up show about moving from Uzbekistan to Scandinavia, loving it, and almost fitting in — for expats who are confused, and Scandinavians who want to know why.

He studied in Sweden. He lives in Denmark. He identifies as technically Scandinavian — biologically suspicious.

Ulug has done his best to integrate. He cycles. He recycles. He avoids eye contact on public transport. Chances are, you’ll recognise yourself somewhere in it.

Ulug Bek has toured with sold-out shows across Denmark and performed at festivals in Sweden, Finland, Iceland, and the Netherlands.

Vignettes
by James Dalton (USA)

Music, travel and other misguided purposes. James navigates performance, parenting, sober living and trying to work for a living while searching for meaning or at least some joy. Captivating storytelling, dazzling harmonica playing, iconic characters, audience engagement, original music sung with a strong and emotional charged voice. James creates a conversation with the audience that is often shaped by the audience itself. Come say hello!

Vignettes is James Dalton’s third solo storytelling show and this will be their second visit to the Gothenburg Fringe

The twin of the clone is the rat that lives here
by Himmer&Hallqvist (Sweden)

The dance performance “the twin of the clone is the rat that lives here” explores the theme of renewal. In a performative landscape, two bodies depict different forms of purification where movement meets the pragmatic. The background to the theme comes from an interest in people’s desire for renewal through self-help.

The work presents physical objects as part of the space. The work wants to create a space of constant renewal and the pursuit of the innermost. It becomes a comment on a superficial focus in society. How do we purify ourselves? Do we want to purify ourselves?
