Deadweight’s The Manikins: a work in progress makes a vigorous argument for interactive theatre as a dramaturgically serious theatrical form and as an ideal medium for the Weird. Led by lead artist Jack Aldisert, this workshop teaches the basic concrete methods for creating, rehearsing, and performing the style of interactive theatre found in The Manikins: a work in progress.
The workshop is divided into three parts -
● Events and intentions (structuring scene-work for improvisation)
● Framing (incorporating the participant into the world of the play)
● The Weird (exploring how interactive theatre disrupts reality)
Participants leave the workshop with a basic understanding of how to create, develop, rehearse, and perform in an interactive scene, how to frame the experience and account for the audience’s presence, and the potential of theatre as a Weird medium. They also each have a fragment of devised work which they may develop further.
The package includes a 3-hour workshop on 2nd September 12-3pm and access to observe the performance on 3rd September 3pm.
