Gustaf Adolfs torg is a historic town square in central Gothenburg. Originally called Stortorget (“The Big Square”), it was renamed in 1854 when a statue of King Gustavus Adolphus—the founding father of Gothenburg—was erected. The square is surrounded by several notable buildings, including the city hall, the courthouse extension by Gunnar Asplund, the bourse (Börsen), and the city’s main harbour canal.
What’s happening:
Together with Börsen (The bourse), Gustaf Adolfs torg will be the location for the Opening Event of the 10th edition of Gothenburg Fringe. From 4:30 pm to 7:30 pm, the square will come alive with music, dance, and circus performances—all free to attend. Grab something tasty from nearby food trucks and enjoy an unforgettable evening of art in the heart of the city.
Note: The closest tram and bus stop is Brunnsparken. From there, it’s a short 2–5 minute walk to Gustav Adolfs torg, depending on which platform you arrive at.
