Ecotone
Ecotone is a cross-disciplinary trilogy by composer-clarinettist Linus Fung and live visual artist Moon.noon inspired by the dehumanisation of human communications to date. The title Ecotone, an ecological term describing a region of transition between two biological communities, symbolises the collaboration between the two art forms, the two artists and the inevitability of communication progression of mankind.

Ecotone was composed in an overlaying manner - where two artists took turns to respond and extend the piece musically/visually one by one until completion (15-20 minutes) like penpals.

"Letter" is inspired by the handwritten letter experience dominant in the past. Writing with one's personal handwriting, sealed with a stamp, awaiting the pigeon's return - the experience is much cherished, requires a certain amount of peace of mind, yet fills every stroke with unfiltered emotions.

"Code" reflects on the era of telegraphy. Communications became instant, yet coding and decoding opened the door to miscommunications.

"Data" is a response to the Big Data era we now live in, where everyday life involves internet, search engines, and AI assistance. Technologies transform human communication, and information overload challenges what we really trust.

The music of Ecotone is classically scored for live processed solo clarinet in B-Flat with a clocked effect-only Eurorack with the live clarinet as the sole sound source.

The live visual of Ecotone is audio-reactive and noise-based, involving a merge of digital and analog manipulations.
