The Gothenburg Fringe is an explosion of creativity. Join us at unique and unexpected venues across the city for uncensored, cutting-edge performance art which stimulates, educates and entertains.
Heading into our seventh year, big and bold is our motto and we’re set to make the 2022 event our best yet, providing the people of Gothenburg with a festival experience like no other. With over 150 performances of all shapes and sizes, there’s a show out there for you.
Since its creation in 2016, Gothenburg Fringe has become a community of artists and performing arts enthusiasts who have helped shape and grow our annual festival into what it is today, making it something to look forward to for the people of Gothenburg and an event performers from around the world travel to participate in.
Just like every Fringe around the world, Gothenburg’s was born from passion and hard work; enthusiasm for development, for creating a platform and for seeing and realising new ideas and initiatives. Gothenburg Fringe will welcome around 60 productions to the festival in 2022, hosting them at 15 venues across the city. Gothenburg Fringe pays for venue rental and gives artists 100% of the ticket revenue.
To help foster this sense of community and offer more opportunities to enjoy Fringe arts in the city, we began our concept of a year-round programme in March 2022, aiming to run events on a seasonal basis, alongside the main festival in September, as long as the support is there and it is sustainable to do so.
Fringe Concept
The tale of Fringe, which began in 1947 in the margins of the Edinburgh International Festival and grew to a movement of almost 300 festivals around the world, is a fascinating one. Discover more about its origins and what Fringe means around the world by visiting the World Fringe website.
